The International Day of Energy Saving is celebrated on November 11 since April 2008. It was decided at the international meeting of SPARE coordinators in Kazakhstan. Then more than 20 countries supported the need to draw attention to the rational use of natural resources and the development of renewable energy sources.
It so happened that on the eve of the date described, Studbolt Manufacturing was visited by employees of Energy on Track LLP to complete an energy audit, which includes: a preliminary inspection of the facility, collecting data on resource consumption for previous years, measuring the parameters of equipment operation, as well as a survey of the building and its utilities.
Taking this opportunity, we decided to ask a few questions to energy auditor Mr. Eldar Bodanov:
- Eldar, how relevant is the topic of energy saving for Kazakhstan now?
- The topic is quite relevant, rates for resources are getting more expensive every year, so many companies now think about saving. In addition, individual entrepreneurs and legal entities that annually consume energy resources in the amount equivalent to 1,500 tons or more of conventional fuel, as well as state institutions, are now entered into the State Energy Register, and are obliged to undergo an energy audit once a year, and as a result – to develop and implement programs to reduce consumption.
- As we know, NCOC has previously initiated a tender and finances the development and improvement of local enterprises and its suppliers. Based on the results of the tender, Energy on Track LLP offers a gratuitous audit to these companies, how willingly do they agree and implement the following recommendations?
- There is no solid answer, some companies take the issue of energy efficiency and ecology very seriously - they replace lamps, install temperature controllers in offices and frequency-controlled drives on industrial equipment. There are cases when during the re-audit (note: every 5 years), it turns out that the company passed it "for show", and does not follow the recommendations using financial difficulties as an excuse.
- Are there any companies that turn to you themselves?
- Yes, and there are many of them. For example, employees of plants apply to us to get with a reasonable offer to the management and improve working conditions, and consequently performance; or companies that reduce energy consumption (note: keep in mind that this is not only electricity), reduce the cost of production and make their prices more competitive.
Returning to the theme of the holiday, which was established on the territory of our country, we looked at the rating of the 25 most energy-efficient countries in 2020 and Kazakhstan was not among them again. In this regard, we have one last question:
- Eldar, what is the current stage of development and understanding of the need for energy conservation? Perhaps the transition to such a "saving mode" seems too costly to the companies’ management?
- It is actively developing. Companies that see future benefits are not afraid to invest. Moreover, now there are many modern and inexpensive ways. And only companies, but ordinary people shall think about this.
- Can you tell me more?
- There are products with which you can save on utility bills both in your apartment and in the office, this is a reflective film for radiators, the temperature controllers, lighting with sensors and dimmers. You also need to pay attention to air conditioners that work on the principle of a heat pump.
There is also a completely free way - to regularly wash windows, floors and wipe lighting fixtures!

Usually we do not even think that a huge amount of energy is spent on the production, transportation, use and disposal of various kinds of goods. At the same time, damage to the environment is caused every minute: non-renewable natural resources are exhausted, during the combustion of which pollutants and greenhouse gases enter the air. Today, when environmental problems in Atyrau are being discussed especially acutely, it is important to remind once again that it is necessary to use resources efficiently and strive to save them.
